Laser tattoo removal in Tulsa and Owasso

Laser tattoo removal uses short, powerful laser pulses to break tattoo ink into smaller fragments that your body's immune system clears away over time.

Whether you want complete removal of an unwanted tattoo or enough fading for a new cover-up, most tattoos fade over a series of sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Tia Christ, APRN-CNP, performs every treatment herself. The clinic is in Owasso, an easy drive from Tulsa.

The basics

How laser tattoo removal works

Tattoo ink sits in the deeper layers of skin in particles too large for your body to remove. During laser tattoo removal, the laser sends energy through the skin in pulses lasting billionths or trillionths of a second. The ink particles absorb that energy and shatter into smaller particles, while the surrounding skin is mostly spared.

Over the following weeks, the body's immune system carries those smaller fragments away through the body's natural processes, and the tattoo fades. Each session breaks up more ink.

At a glance

  • Most tattoos need about 6 to 12 sessions
  • Sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart
  • A few minutes per session for small tattoos
  • Complete removal or fading for a cover-up

Lasers

Tattoo removal technology

Most tattoo removal lasers are either Q switched lasers, which fire nanosecond pulses, or picosecond lasers, which fire even shorter pulses. Different wavelengths target different tattoo pigments. A YAG laser at 1064 nm works well on black and dark blue ink, and 532 nm targets red and orange.

Picosecond lasers can break ink into smaller particles and may need fewer treatment sessions for some tattoos than traditional lasers.

Sessions

How many treatments will I need?

Most tattoos need about 6 to 12 sessions for complete removal, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart so the skin can heal and the body can clear the ink. The number of sessions needed depends on several factors. Cosmetic tattoos, such as eyebrow or lip liner, can contain pigments that darken with laser light, so we review those carefully.

Factor Usually fades faster Usually takes more sessions
Ink colors Black, dark blue, red Green, light blue, yellow, white
Tattoo age Older tattoos Newer tattoos
Who did it Amateur tattoos Professional, densely inked tattoos
Location Near the heart (chest, neck, arms) Hands, ankles and feet
Layers A single layer Cover-ups and layered ink
Your health Nonsmokers with good circulation Smokers

Safety

Is laser tattoo removal safe?

Laser tattoo removal is safe with minimal risk when performed by a trained provider. Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blistering and scabbing. Less common risks are lighter or darker skin in the treated area, incomplete removal and, rarely, scarring.

Not every tattoo can be completely removed, and we tell you honestly what to expect. Laser tattoo removal is not a good fit if you are pregnant, have a tan in the treatment area, or have an active skin infection or open wound where the tattoo is.

Private and judgment free

Step by step

What to expect

  1. 01

    Free discovery call and consultation

Tattoo size, ink colors, age and skin type, your goal (complete removal or a cover-up), and transparent pricing.

  2. 02

    Numbing

Numbing cream or cold air. Most clients say it feels like a rubber band snap, and less painful than getting the tattoo.

  3. 03

    Treatment

A few minutes for most small tattoos. The skin turns white for a short time, called frosting.

  4. 04

    Healing

Redness, swelling and possible blistering or scabbing for 1 to 2 weeks. The tattoo keeps fading for weeks.

Healing well

Aftercare

Good aftercare lowers the risk of scarring and helps your body clear the ink between sessions. We give you written instructions after every session.

After each session

  • Keep the treated area clean and covered for the first few days
  • Apply the ointment we recommend; do not pick at blisters or scabs
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs and soaking until it heals
  • Keep it out of the sun and wear sunscreen once healed
  • Do not smoke; it slows healing and ink clearance

Pricing

Tattoo removal cost

Tattoo removal cost depends on tattoo size, ink colors and how many treatments you need. Nationally, laser tattoo removal often costs about $150 to $500 per session, with small tattoos at the lower end.

We price your treatment by size and give you the full price at your consultation, so there are no surprises. See memberships and pricing.

FAQ

Laser tattoo removal questions

Do you offer a free consultation for tattoo removal?

Yes. Start with a free discovery call or text us a photo of your tattoo. We talk through your goals, how many sessions you may need and transparent pricing, then schedule your first treatment at our Owasso office.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?

It is uncomfortable but quick. Most people compare it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Numbing cream helps, and small tattoos take only a few minutes.

Can a tattoo be completely removed?

Many tattoos can be completely removed or faded until they are barely visible, but not every tattoo clears fully. Some colors and layered tattoos may leave a faint shadow.

What happens at the first treatment session?

Your first session starts with a review of your health history and the tattoo, then numbing. Most people feel less discomfort than they expected. Many tattoos fade noticeably after the first session, and fading continues for weeks as your body clears the unwanted ink.

How long does it take to remove a tattoo?

Because sessions are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart and most tattoos need 6 to 12 sessions, complete removal often takes a year or more.

Can you lighten a tattoo for a cover-up?

Yes. Fading a tattoo before a cover-up usually takes fewer sessions than complete removal and gives your tattoo artist more options.

Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar?

Scarring is rare when the skin is allowed to heal between sessions and aftercare is followed. Picking at scabs raises the risk.

Which tattoo colors are hardest to remove?

Green, light blue, yellow and white inks are the hardest. Black and dark blue respond best.

Will I have clear skin after tattoo removal?

Clear skin is the goal, and most people get there or close. The treated skin can stay lighter or darker for a while, and some inks leave a faint shadow. We set honest expectations before your first session.
