Peptide therapy in Owasso and Tulsa

Peptide therapy at Pathway Health & Beauty uses prescription peptides, short chains of amino acids that act as signals in the body, to support goals like weight loss, body composition, sleep, recovery and sexual health.

Tia Christ, APRN-CNP, prescribes peptides only after a full health history and lab work, uses licensed US 503A compounding pharmacies or FDA-approved products, and is upfront about what the research does and does not show. The clinic is in Owasso, a short drive from Tulsa, with telehealth across Oklahoma.

The basics

What are peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Your body makes thousands of them. Peptide therapy uses natural or lab-made peptides to copy or boost these signals.

Some peptide medications are well studied and FDA approved, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide for weight loss. Others are compounded, and the research behind them ranges from solid to very limited. Part of our job is telling you which is which.

Peptides your body already makes

  • Insulin, which moves sugar into cells
  • GLP-1, which signals fullness after meals
  • Growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH)
  • Oxytocin, involved in bonding and labor

Options

Peptide therapies we may discuss

Your options depend on your goals, labs and health history. We do not promise anti-aging miracles. If a peptide has little human research, we tell you before you spend money on it.

Goal Examples Evidence
Weight loss Semaglutide, tirzepatide (GLP-1 peptides) Strong; FDA approved for chronic weight management
Growth hormone support, sleep and recovery Sermorelin Older FDA approval for children, since discontinued; limited adult research
Low libido in premenopausal women Bremelanotide (Vyleesi) FDA approved for hypoactive sexual desire disorder
Belly fat in specific conditions Tesamorelin (Egrifta) FDA approved for excess abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy

A closer look

Peptides for sustainable weight loss, and sermorelin

Peptides for weight loss

Four FDA-approved peptide medications are used for weight loss today, including semaglutide and tirzepatide. Liraglutide was the first GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for weight loss. Semaglutide led to about 15% average weight loss over 68 weeks and tirzepatide about 21% over 72 weeks in trials. GLP-1 peptides also help stabilize blood sugar after eating and improve insulin sensitivity. Newer peptides such as retatrutide showed up to about 24% weight loss in early trials but are still investigational.

Sermorelin

A growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) analog that signals the pituitary gland to release more of your own growth hormone. It was once FDA approved for children with growth hormone deficiency but is no longer marketed as a brand product. Some adults use compounded sermorelin for sleep, recovery and body composition, but research in healthy adults is limited.

Know the difference

Peptide injections, peptide supplements and steroids

Peptides act as signaling molecules: each specific peptide binds specific receptors and switches on a particular job in the body, from insulin, the peptide essential for blood sugar control, to peptides that regulate appetite and digestion. Common delivery methods include injections, topical creams and oral supplements, and the word peptide on a label tells you little by itself.

Peptide injections

Prescription peptides are usually given as a small subcutaneous injection in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, because most peptides are broken down in the stomach if swallowed.

Peptide supplements and creams

Collagen peptides sold over the counter are dietary supplements, and peptide eye creams are cosmetics. Peptide supplements are not tested by the FDA before sale. They are different products from FDA-approved peptide medications.

Peptides vs steroids

Peptides are not anabolic steroids. Growth hormone secretagogues such as sermorelin nudge your own hormone activity, and claims that they support muscle growth or fat loss in healthy adults rest on limited research.

Potential benefits and safety concerns

Some unapproved peptides show promising results in animal models for tissue repair, injury recovery, joint health and gut health. BPC-157, for example, is studied for tendon and ligament recovery, but few have human studies with real clinical outcomes, and the lack of long-term data is a real safety concern. Unregulated peptides may contain impurities, and experimental compounds can carry unknown risks, especially with a cancer history.

Skin and healthy aging

Peptides for skin, recovery and healthy aging

Peptide therapy is a growing area in functional and anti-aging medicine, and many wellness clinics promote it. Some uses have reasonable early evidence. Others are mostly marketing. Here is where the research stands for the peptides people ask us about most.

Copper peptides (GHK-Cu)

Used mostly in topical skin care, GHK-Cu may stimulate collagen and elastin production, and studies suggest copper peptides can reduce fine wrinkles and improve skin thickness.

Collagen peptides

Oral collagen peptides may improve skin moisture and elasticity, and some studies suggest they may ease osteoarthritis pain. They are supplements, not medicines.

Matrixyl and cosmetic peptides

Cosmetic peptides such as Matrixyl appear in serums and eye creams and may improve skin texture. Results are modest and gradual.

Immune and recovery peptides

Thymosin alpha-1 is studied for immune function in chronic infections, and some peptides are promoted for muscle growth and muscle recovery. Evidence in healthy adults is limited, and availability depends on current FDA rules.

Licensed sources only

Proven, promising or hype: you will know which before you pay.

We use licensed US 503A compounding pharmacies or FDA-approved products, never research chemicals.

Regulations

Peptide rules are changing

Federal rules on which peptides compounding pharmacies can legally use have changed several times in recent years, and in 2026 the FDA signaled it would review several popular peptides again.

Some peptides sold online as “research chemicals” are not made for human use and may be impure or mislabeled.

At Pathway, we only prescribe peptides that can be legally prescribed and compounded at the time, from licensed US 503A compounding pharmacies, or FDA-approved products. Tia will tell you the current status of any peptide you ask about.

Safety

Is peptide therapy safe?

Safety depends on the peptide, the dose, the source and your health. Peptides that raise growth hormone are not used with active cancer, and most peptides are not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

We review your medical history, medications and labs before prescribing, and we recheck labs and symptoms during treatment.

Possible side effects

  • Redness, itching or swelling at the injection site
  • Nausea, flushing or headache
  • Water retention or joint aches with growth hormone peptides
  • Changes in blood sugar
  • Allergic reactions, which are rare

FAQ

Peptide therapy questions

What does peptide therapy do?

It depends on the peptide. GLP-1 peptides reduce appetite and support weight loss. Growth hormone releasing peptides like sermorelin signal your body to release more growth hormone. Others target sexual health or specific medical conditions.

Are peptides FDA approved?

Some are, such as semaglutide, tirzepatide, bremelanotide and tesamorelin. Many others are compounded and not FDA approved for the uses people seek them for.

Can I buy peptides online?

Peptides sold online as research chemicals are not meant for people and may not contain what the label says. Get peptides only by prescription from a licensed pharmacy.

How long does peptide therapy take to work?

GLP-1 peptides reduce appetite within weeks. Growth hormone peptides, if they help, usually take two to three months to show changes in sleep, recovery or body composition.

Do you offer BPC-157?

The legal status of BPC-157 and several similar peptides has been changing. Ask us, and Tia will explain the current rules and whether there is a legal, safe option.

Is peptide therapy covered by insurance?

FDA-approved peptides may be covered for their approved uses. Compounded peptides are usually self-pay.
